Wir, XIV Dark Centuries, sehen uns selbst als eine stark ideologisch im Heidentum verwurzelte Band. Uns lag es immer fern auf kurzlebige musikalische Trends aufzuspringen. Der Name XIV Dark Centuries spiegelt unsere Ansicht wider, dass die 14 Jahrhunderte, die seit der Christianisierung Thüringens vergangen sind, "dunkel" sind. Wir verehren die Natur und die germanischen Götter, welche neben der Geschichte unserer Vorfahren, ihrem Leben und Wirken, bisher Hauptthemen unserer Texte waren. Unseren Stil könnte man als Heidnischen Thüringer Metal bezeichnen. Diese Beschreibung betont die drei stärksten Einflüsse und Merkmale unserer Musik – das Heidentum, unsere Heimat Thüringen und Metal. Einfacher beschrieben besteht die Musik hauptsächlich aus Black, Death und Heavy Metal mit folkigen Melodien, teils mit melodischen, teils mit schweren Riffs auf einem anspruchsvollem Schlagzeugspiel. Die Texte werden genretypisch mit Growls, Screams und natürlich auch durch hymnenhaften klarem Gesang vorgetragen. Seit 1998 unter diesem Namen aktiv, haben wir bisher 1 Demo, 1 MCD und 5 CDs veröffentlicht. Anfangs über das Label CCP Records und Perverted Taste landete man für die letzten 2 Alben bei Einheit Produktionen, einem kleinen Label aus Ostdeutschland, welche der Band alle Freiheiten bei der musikalischen und künstlerischen Gestaltung der Veröffentlichungen lässt. Von Anfang an sahen wir uns immer als Live-Band. Dabei waren die größten Auftritte bisher auf dem Summer Breeze Festival, dem Rock Harz Festival, dem Wave-Gothic-Treffen (WGT) und regelmäßig auf dem Ragnarök Festival. Unser letztes Album erschien im März 2020 unter dem Namen „Waldvolk“. Von vielen Mags und Fanzines wurden sehr lobende Worte dafür gefunden und oftmals als unser stärkstes Album beschrieben. Das nächste Kapitel, das neue Album, welches den Namen Aus uralter Zeit trägt, wird 9 Lieder plus Intro enthalten. Es markiert eine Wendung hin zu eher mystischen Themen, wie alten Glauben und Schrecken aus früheren Welten und ist unser Meinung nach musikalisch viel abwechslungsreicher als unser früheres Material, welches ja auschließlich im Pagan Metal verwurzelt war. Sicher wird man unsere Handschrift heraus hören, aber diesmal eher viel düsterer und bedrohlicher als die älteren, eher folkloristisch angehauchten Alben. Die Lieder wurden, um der düsteren Stimmung Ausdruck zu verleihen, in der alten 432 Hz Stimmung aufgenommen, die in Europa bis ins 19. Jahrhundert üblich war. Archäologische Funde und historische Aufzeichnungen deuten darauf hin, dass auch in antiken Zivilisationen wie den Sumerern, Ägyptern und Griechen die 432 Hz Stimmung eine Rolle spielte. Auch eine Special Edition CD wird wieder erscheinen. Das auf 250 Stück limitierte Set besteht aus einer Glasplatte mit Cover, einer eloxierten Aluplatte als Rückenplatte und eingefrästen Titeln. Es wird eine CD, eine Kassette und einen USB Stick mit einigen Videos und Zusatzmaterial enthalten. Außerdem sind weitere Hingucker vorhanden, wie z.B. ein durch eine LED beleuchtetes Fach mit einem Kristall. Dies alles kommt dann noch in einen maßgeschneiderten, hochwertigem Pappkarton mit geprägtem Logo. Weiterhin soll auch eine limitierte LP erscheinen. 2026 werden wir zudem wieder verstärkt auf den Bühnen Deutschlands und Europas unterwegs sein.

We, XIV Dark Centuries, see ourselves as a band strongly ideologically rooted in paganism. We have always been reluctant to jump on short-lived musical trends. The name XIV Dark Centuries reflects our view that the 14 centuries that have passed since the Christianization of Thuringia are dark. We revere nature and the Germanic gods, which, alongside the history of our ancestors, their lives and deeds, have been the main themes of our texts to date. Our style could be described as Pagan Thuringian Metal. This description highlights the three strongest influences and characteristics of our music – paganism, our home region of Thuringia, and metal. Put more simply, our music consists mainly of black, death, and heavy metal with folk melodies, partly with melodic riffs and partly with heavy riffs, accompanied by sophisticated drumming. The lyrics are performed in a manner typical of the genre, with growls, screams, and, of course, clear, hymn-like vocals. Active under this name since 1998, we have released 1 demo, 1 MCD and 6 CDs so far. Formerly we worked with the labels CCP Records and Perverted Taste, but the last 2 albums were released by Einheit Produktionen, a small label from East Germany, which gives the band all the freedom they need to create their releases musically and artistically. From the beginning we always saw ourselves as a live band. The biggest gigs so far were at the Summer Breeze Festival, the Rock Harz Festival, the Wave-Gothic-Treffen (WGT) and regularly at the Ragnarök Festival. Our last album was released in March 2020 under the name „Waldvolk“ (it means in english forest folk).Many mags and fanzines praised it and often described it as our strongest album. The next chapter, the new album entitled „Aus uralter Zeit“ (From Ancient Times), will contain nine songs plus an intro. It marks a shift towards more mystical themes, such as ancient beliefs and horrors from earlier worlds, and in our opinion it is musically much more varied than our earlier material, which was exclusively rooted in pagan metal. You will certainly recognise our signature sound, but this time it is much darker and more menacing than our older, more folkloric-inspired albums. To convey the sombre mood, the songs were recorded in the old 432 Hz tuning, which was common in Europe until the 19th century. Archaeological finds and historical records indicate that the 432 Hz tuning also played a role in ancient civilisations such as the Sumerians, Egyptians and Greeks. Also a special edition CD will be released again. The set, limited to 250 copies, consists of a glass plate with cover, an anodised aluminium plate as a back plate and engraved titles. It will contain a CD, a cassette and a USB stick with some videos and additional material. There are also other eye catching features, such as an LED-illuminated compartment containing a crystal. All of this comes in a custom-made, high-quality cardboard box with an embossed logo. A limited edition LP is also set to be released. In 2026, we will also be back on the stages of Germany and Europe more extensively again
